Message from the Executive Director

Michael MalloryOn behalf of the CAP Charitable Foundation I am delighted to welcome you to the Ron Brown Scholar Program's web site. We are especially proud of the way our Ron Brown Scholars have used the benefits of the scholarship to sculpt their own visions of success and accomplishment at their respective colleges and universities.

The Ron Brown Scholar Program is a national program benefiting academically-talented, highly motivated African-American high school seniors who have demonstrated financial need, social commitment and leadership potential.

The Program awards its Scholars $40,000 towards their college costs - $10,000 per year for 4 years. It offers personal attention to each Scholar throughout the academic year. It requires and coordinates career and community-oriented internships. It promotes strong links among the Scholars, and every three years brings the Scholars to a highly-interactive Summer Leadership Conference to promote fellowship and the exchange of ideas.

Ron Brown Scholars are students whose records reveal leadership. Equally important, their backgrounds indicate strong social concern for their immediate or larger communities. They are young people who will use their success to help in meaningful ways both as members of their own communities and society as a whole.

An increasingly important compliment to the scholarships is a strong sense of community among our Scholars. We attempt to enable those in the Program, along with its alumni, to have a clear sense of themselves as Ron Brown Scholars: they receive financial and other support while actually in school, but they will be Ron Brown Scholars for a lifetime. Current Scholars are establishing a purposeful family, initiating close relationships not only at their chosen schools but through off-campus meetings with Scholars elsewhere, by e-mail and at our exciting Summer Leadership Conferences.
