NBC Entertainment announced this week that Terence Carter, Ron Brown Scholar 1997, has been promoted to vice president of drama programming. Since joining the network in 2005, Terence has played a key role in the development of numerous comedies such as "20 Good Years" and "The IT Crowd." He also helped oversee development of NBC's revival of the hit television show "Knight Rider." In his new role, Carter will be responsible for the development of the network's next series of successful dramas. NBC senior vice president of drama Katie O'Connell cited his "extensive background and great instincts" as some of his many distinguishing factors in announcing his promotion.

"Terence is a wonderful example of the post-graduate successes Ron Brown Scholars have achieved in a variety of compelling fields," said Mike Mallory, executive director of the Ron Brown Scholar Program. "On behalf of the entire Ron Brown Scholar family, we extend our sincere congratulations and we look forward to watching his work develop on television."

Long interested in the entertainment industry, Carter began his career in television as an intern for "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" in 2000. Before he joined NBC, he worked at an independent production company, and served as a head of development at Tonic Films where he oversaw the development of several films. He joined NBC's drama team last year.

A 2001 Harvard University alum, Carter graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Afro-American Studies with a focus in film and media.  He has been active in service organizations, such as Habitat for Humanity throughout his academic and professional career.
