The Aghedo Firm & Houston Wellness Workshops for Women (H3W)

Karla J. Aghedo is the Founder and CEO of Houston Wellness Workshops for Women (H3W). After a decade of practicing as an attorney in the global law firm of Hogan Lovells US LLP, Aghedo recently launched The Aghedo Firm PLLC, specializing in white collar criminal defense.  She is also a Managing Member of Houston Life Rhythms LLC, a real estate investment company.

Through H3W, Aghedo curates wellness experiences, information, and resources for professional women who want to reclaim their power through wellness. H3W offers wellness workshops, retreats, networking events, and memberships to create a community of support for the mental, physical, and spiritual health of its community. Combining her own experience with the recurring themes from hundreds of conversations with women in the same grind – lawyers, doctors, engineers, nurses, teachers, accountants, professors – facing the same struggles, Aghedo started H3W in August 2019 with the whole woman in view: mind, body, and spirit.

As Managing Attorney for The Aghedo Firm, Karla relies on her creativity and client focus to develop innovative solutions to the challenges facing clients in complex criminal investigations and litigation. Karla advises clients on criminal and civil investigations, with a focus on investigations prompted by the Department of Justice and other federal and state agencies.

As a former state prosecutor, Karla brings her trial experience to bear in strategizing from the government’s point of view to defend individuals and companies. Focusing on how the case would be presented to a jury from the earliest stages of an investigation, Karla dives into the facts with an eye for how each fits into the larger picture. Karla has advised clients on criminal matters related to Medicare fraud, pharmaceutical promotional claims, medical device sales compliance, as well as mortgage servicing regulations, tax fraud, and election law. She is experienced in electronic discovery and all stages of criminal and civil litigation, from indictment or complaint to trial proceedings.

Before starting The Aghedo Firm, Karla gained valuable experience as a Senior Associate at Hogan Lovells and, prior to that,  as an Assistant District Attorney with the Anderson County District Attorney’s office in East Texas, where she handled felony and misdemeanor cases, in addition to managing the civil asset forfeiture docket. During law school, Karla won the Bracewell Best Oralist Award for her first-year oral argument and participated in the Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial Competition for three years, securing a team Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship and First Runner-up for the National Best Advocate individual award. Karla resides in Houston with her husband, two boys and daughter.
