Overview

Each year approximately 5,000 African American high school students compete for the prestigious Ron Brown Scholarship, $40K over four years. Candidates undergo a rigorous screening which involves assessment of their academic achievements, leadership experience, writing skills, commitment to service and financial need. Forty to fifty students will be awarded and named Ron Brown Scholars. The remaining top 2-3% of top applicants (around 150) are awarded the distinction of Captains and selected to join our invitation-only Ron Brown–Ruth and Norman Rales Leaders Network, where they receive personal and professional development services alongside the Scholars.

The Ron Brown - Ruth and Norman Rales Leaders Network provides customized support to Scholars and Captains though an annual Leaders Summit, year-round career development services, and networking opportunities with corporate partners and 3000+ accomplished alumni.
